Local Artist: Michael Golden
A Vietnam Veteran and a steel worker of 33 years, Michael Golden has been working with his hands for most of his life be it restoring antique cars, making stained glass panels or even his newest hobby woodworking. When it comes to creating beautiful stained glass works of art he has been at it for over 40 years. Michael started his journey into the world of stained glass in 1980 when feeling a touch of cabin fever he began looking to learn a new skill. The guitar was his first choice but his fingers were too big to play, so he signed up for a stained glass class at Lehigh Carbon Community College with his wife. Early on Michael found a source of inspiration from the swirls, colors, and general designs often found in turn of the century Victorian glass panels.
After honing his skills Michael began entering his pieces into contests held at The Great Allentown Fair. He won his first award in 1984 for his entry named Roman Rooms. Which depicts a marble home with vines overlooking a vast beautiful country side (Can be seen below). In the years since Michael has created over 30 lamps, multiple award winning glass panels and has even done panel restoration and recreation on older homes like the West Park Mansion in Bethlehem. Even after so many years Michael still has the same love and passion for the art as when he began all those years ago.
